How do I know if I have been a victim of a scam?

Scams aren’t always easy to spot. Look out for these common warning signs:

  • You’re asked for personal details
Legitimate companies won’t ask for passwords or bank details. Ignore the message and contact the company using a trusted number.

  • Unexpected contact
Be cautious of calls, texts, or emails you weren’t expecting — especially if they don’t use your name.

  • Pressure to act quickly
Fraudsters create urgency. Reputable organisations won’t rush you or pressure you into payments.

  • Unusual payment methods
Be wary of requests to transfer money, pay upfront, or use gift cards or vouchers.

  • Poor spelling or grammar
Messages with obvious errors are often a scam.

  • Too good to be true offers
Guaranteed returns or tempting rewards are a red flag. If in doubt, don’t proceed.
