You don’t need to spend the big bucks to give your home a bit of a facelift. And, with autumnal nights fast approaching, now’s the perfect time for a refresh.

Here are our top tips on creating a cosy change of scenery in your home.

Add a welcoming wreath

Wreaths are a year-round trend nowadays, so hang a stunning autumnal wreath on your front door to start the season off in style. Woven branches, pine cones or dried flowers will jazz up the entrance to your home perfectly.

If your front door doesn’t quite have the kerb appeal you desire, why not invest in upgrading? Front doors come in a variety of designs and colours so you can create an aesthetic that will have you looking forward to coming home each night.

Swap out your artwork

Whether you’re a keen art collector or you’re just venturing into the world of buying art on a budget, there’s no better time to give your art collection a refresh. Look out for a piece of statement artwork that will add warm tones to your main living space. You can then rotate your favourite pieces of art throughout the seasons.

Upgrade your curtains

Now the colder weather is here, a set of new curtains can make all the difference to the look and feel of your home – and luxuriously thick curtains will keep your rooms nice and toasty too. Go for dark oranges, deep reds and even a touch of gold to add autumnal vibes to any room.

Switch up your soft furnishings

A relatively cheap and easy way to make a big impact is by changing your soft furnishings such as cushion covers and blankets to fit in with the autumnal season. Think beyond simply changing up the colour. Autumn is all about texture, so see if you can add some embroidery, spots or frills.

Don’t be shy when it comes to placing blankets around the home either. Nothing says ‘get snuggled up’ like piles of cushions and throws to sink into.

Paint an autumnal accent wall

If you’re ready to say goodbye to bright and breezy summer palettes, why not pick out a feature wall to paint in your favourite fall shade? An earthy green or tempting terracotta colour can make any space pop.

Opt for mood lighting

Now the nights are drawing in, you’ll need some extra help around the home to keep it light. More lamps are a great idea as they can help bring warmth to the room.

Don’t forget to create ambience with candles, too. Whether you go for a bold pillar candle or dot tealights around the room, candles can add a cosy touch to any space.

Make your space smaller

This might sound strange… but stick with us. When you’re ready to snuggle down for a movie marathon or enjoy a lazy weekend reading on the sofa, a smaller space might be just what you’re after. Split up your room with a temporary divider such as a folding screen, creating the perfect atmosphere for a cosy night in.

Incorporate natural materials

Wood is a lovely material for around the home at any time of year, but especially in autumn. It has a homely quality that will make everyone feel instantly at ease, and it’s cheap and easy to get hold of.

Don’t forget to add a rustic touch by incorporating other natural materials such as wicker, bamboo, dried pampas and rattan.

Try your hand at home décor DIY

From autumn leaf garlands to homemade potpourri, there are plenty of ways you can get creative this season. Not only will you be able to proudly showcase your creations, but you’ll save plenty of money avoiding shop-bought decorations too.

Embrace the great outdoors

When you’re sprucing up your home for the autumn season, don’t forget to give your garden some much-needed TLC too. The weather might be getting colder, but you can still enjoy autumn nights tucked up by a fire pit or some flickering fairy lights. Make the most of your garden by creating the perfect covered seating area to socialise in.
